MLB Injuries (3/1/25)

Here are some of the notable MLB injuries from around MLB.

New York Yankees:

  • Luis Gil (RHP): The reigning American League Rookie of the Year experienced shoulder tightness during a bullpen session on February 28 and is scheduled for an MRI.
  • Scott Effross (RHP): Effross has been diagnosed with a Grade 2 left hamstring strain, raising concerns about his availability for Opening Day.
  • JT Brubaker (RHP): Brubaker suffered three fractured ribs after being struck by a comebacker on February 21. He has not pitched in the majors since 2022 due to previous injuries.

Detroit Tigers:

  • Matt Vierling (Utility Player): Vierling is expected to miss the start of the season due to a rotator cuff strain, adding to the Tigers’ injury concerns alongside Parker Meadows’ biceps issue.

Chicago Cubs:

  • Nico Hoerner (2B): Hoerner is sidelined with a right flexor tendon injury and will miss the team’s trip to Japan, aiming to return for the domestic season opener. 
  • Matt Shaw (INF): Shaw is dealing with left oblique soreness and is considered day-to-day.

New York Mets:

  • Nick Madrigal (INF): Madrigal suffered a fractured left shoulder on February 23 and is expected to undergo season-ending surgery.
  • Dedniel Núñez (RHP): Núñez is recovering from a strained right flexor tendon and is questionable for Opening Day.
  • Sean Manaea (LHP): Manaea is dealing with a strained right oblique and is expected to return in mid-to-late April.

Atlanta Braves:

  • Ronald Acuña Jr. (RF): Acuña Jr. is recovering from a torn right ACL and is expected to return in mid-to-late May.
  • Spencer Strider (RHP): Strider underwent UCL surgery on his right elbow and aims to return in late April.
  • Austin Riley (3B): Riley suffered a fractured right hand but is anticipated to be ready for Opening Day.

Miami Marlins:

  • Braxton Garrett (LHP): Garrett underwent revision surgery on his left ulnar collateral ligament in January and will miss the entire 2025 season.
